Het bedrijf Brons Motoren is in 1907 opgericht door Jan Brons, die een hele goede dieselmotor had ontworpen. Hij begon eerst in Wagenborgen, later korte tijd in Delfzijl en later in Appingedam. Ze deden zowel in scheepsmotoren als motoren voor gemalen. Lees meer op Wikipedia. Zijn broer begon in Zuidbroek Machinefabriek Brons (zie onder Zuidbroek). Vanaf 1907 was de Appingedammer Bronsmotorenfabriek een begrip in Appingedam. De oprichter Jan Brons was zijn tijd ook ver vooruit en zeker naar zijn werknemers toe. Er werden zelfs huizen gebouwd en vrijetijds- activiteiten opgezet.
Het was op 12 september van het jaar 1910 in Alphen aan den Rijn, dat Johannes Boot in een nieuw gebouwd fabriekje met één man personeel, zeer bescheiden begon met het maken van een eerste INDUSTRIE twee tact-middeldruk-gloeikop motor.
In 1977 gaan Brons en Industrie samen tot de Brons-Industrie Groep en op 1 november 1977 wordt motorenfabriek “De Industrie” in Alphen aan den Rijn gesloten er werden 150 man ontslagen.Vestiging IJmuiden bleef open voor onderhoud en reparatie. Vanaf 1981 werden er MAN motoren bij Brons-Industrie in licentie gebouwd. Ook werd doorBrons-Industrie een prototype van een MAN gasmotor verder doorontwikkeld en vanaf 1983 op de markt gebracht. De verkopen liepen in de jaren ’80 echter steeds verder terug en in 1989 werd de Brons-Industrie groep overgenomen door het Amerikaanse Waukesha, een grote producent van gasmotoren, die in Europa een vestiging wilde.
Tot 2006 zijn er gasmotoren gebouwd in de Appingerdammer Bronsmotorenfabriek. Het pand van de fabriek staat er nog steeds. Men maakt er nu grote afsluiters voor de olie- en gasindustrie.
Van 1907 tot 2006 zijn er motoren gebouwd, nét geen 100 jaar!

The office in the Groothandelsgebouw was closed ca. around the year 2000 and the factory in Maasssluis burned down in 2003. The current company Willem Pot B.V. recovered from the fire and is now located in Spaanse Polder in Rotterdam. (Source: van Schaardenburg, personal communication, 2006). The latest owner, L. Nederlof (steph son of Bastiaan Pot) sold the company to the Norwegian company Schat Harding (bron: H. van der Knijff, pers. communicatie 20-2-2012).
