Geschiedenis
Nederland verzette zich (na de 2e wereldoorlog) tegen de Indonesische onafhankelijkheid en stuurde militairen om de rust te herstellen, de zgn. 'politionele acties'. Nederland slaagde er echter niet in de Indonesiërs te verslaan en mede vanwege internationale druk van vooral de Verenigde Staten, accepteerde Nederland op 27 december 1949 de Indonesische onafhankelijkheid. Alleen de westelijke helft van Nieuw-Guinea bleef nog tot 1962 Nederlands.
De Nederlandse aanwezigheid in Indonesië, met uitzondering van Nieuw-Guinea, kwam pas echt ten einde in december 1957, toen vanwege het conflict tussen Nederland en Indonesië over Nieuw-Guinea Nederlanders werden gedwongen uit Indonesië te vertrekken en Nederlandse bedrijven werden genationaliseerd.
Het verschil van mening over de datum van ontstaan van de Republik Indonesia heeft tientallen jaren de betrekkingen tussen Nederland en Indonesië verziekt. Indonesië hield vast aan de datum 17 augustus 1945, Nederland hield vast aan 27 december 1949. Pas in 2005 werd bij monde van minister Bot van Buitenlandse Zaken het volgende gesteld: Ik zal met steun van het Kabinet aan de mensen in Indonesië duidelijk maken dat in Nederland het besef bestaat dat de onafhankelijkheid van de Republiek Indonesië de facto al begon op 17 augustus 1945 en dat wij - zestig jaar na dato - dit feit in politieke en morele zin ruimhartig aanvaarden. Saillant detail is dat minister Bot zelf als kind in het concentratiekamp Ambarawa de uitroeping van de Republiek Indonesia heeft meegemaakt.

Until 1949 the name of the bank was Nederlandsch-Indische Escompto Maatschappij N.V.(see below for shares of that company); In 1952 the word Gulden (Guilder) was changed to Rupiah (RP), which is indicated on these pieces by means of a large stamp. A smaller stamp indicates that a payment has been made. Measures: ca. 18 x 30 cm.
In 1958 the name of the company was changed into P.T. Escomptobank, what is indicated on the shares with a large stamp.
The shares have a brown decorative border and in the under print a sword and laurel wreath (NL: lauwerkrans);
