Amsterdam, The company was established in february 27th 1891. One of the last coaches they produced is the famous Golden Coach, a present to the Dutch Queen Wilhelmina from the citicens of Amsterdam, on the occasion of her ascent to the throne in 1898. This coach is still in use by the present queen every year at the opening of parliament.
A small booklet (32 pages in Dutch and in full colour, issued in 1997 by PTT-Post) describes the history of the accomplishment of this extremely expensive couch ( it costed 40 times the amount of the most expensive couch in the Spijker product range), and the many artists of fame who worked to decorate it with beautiful paintings, ornaments and symbolism (twelve men had worked for two years to build it).
